NJ SEED Issues in the News-Dredging the Deleware River
The shipping industry in the United States, and for that matter, the whole world will be changed on October 20, 2014. That is the projected date for the completion of the Panama Canal widening & deepening project that will allow a new larger and deeper draft size of container ships to pass from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. These new larger vessels; known as the Post Panamax Ships, will no longer unload their cargo on the West Coast to be transported by rail to the East Coast. Cargo will now pass through the Panama Canal and into ports that are deep enough to accommodate their business.

NJ SEED Issue Update: BPU Energy Master Plan Hearing Update
The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) held a public hearing on July 26, 2011 to discuss Governor Chris Christie's Energy Master Plan (EMP) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Campus Center Atrium in Newark, New Jersey lead by BPU President Lee Solomon. Governor Christie along with the BPU released the 2011 EMP as a legally mandated update to the 2008 EMP on June 7, 2011, The EMP outlines the state's energy policy in both the immediate and long-term. NJ SEED Legislative Update
Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-Gloucester) presided over a Senate Session today to consider overrides of Governor Chris Christie's line item vetoes to the budget. Democrats sought to reinstate funding for various programs, mostly social services, which were cut from the budget. The Governor of New Jersey has the ability to line out, or veto items in the budget that he does not agree with and then sign the partial bill into law. Read the rest of this entry »
NJ SEED Policy Update: Goethals Bridge
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey shortlisted three items to design, build, finance and maintain the $1.6 billion replacement Goethals Bridge.This move will create jobs in the near future and will increase the long-term viability of New Jersey's ports.
