New Faces, New Leaders as NJ Legislature Gets New Start

For the first time in over a decade, New Jersey’s state Senate has a new leader after Nicholas Scutari, a Union County Democrat, was elected by his colleagues on Tuesday to serve as president of the Legislature’s upper house.

A veteran senator from Linden, Scutari took over for former Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-Gloucester) whose stunning loss in November ended his run as the Senate’s longest-serving president.
